pink ice
Sometimes driving to work on two-lane Meridian Road I'm glad no cars are around me because I am mesmerized by Nature. -15 F (-26 C) temps put hoar frost on every twig this morning. With the rising sun pinking up the frosting and clouds, I thanked my lucky cars - I mean stars - to be living in a winter wonderland.

You can indeed thank your lucky stars, Ruth. Fantastical things are happening this winter all over the western world! :)
Absolutely gorgeous Ruth!..you captured the colors and the cold well. I am currently not working and have been thinking of all the sunrises I used to see but now miss..
OH Ruth....this is beautiful!
Stay Warm!!
A true winter wonderland. the rosy sky just adds to the magic.
Dang it! You outdid me on the snow sunrise photos....again! Seriously, that's as beautiful as the one I sent you yesterday. As I said over on Bear Swamp, I bow to the master. ((bow))
Oh, these pictures are gorgeous! How great that you can pull over; usually when I see something to photograph, in NJ or PA, I've got some tailgater on my rear! These pictures make me want to paint!
beautiful, as always, Ruth...........:)
so incredibly beautiful. i know so many of you are getting way more snow than you bargained for, but I sure would like to see a little down here. I'm so thankful that I get to see the beauty through the talented photographers in the blogging world.
new to your blog - i'm sure I'll be back.
Snow in the city is not nearly this gorgeous for long.
Hi Ruth, what a fun experiment. Have you warmed up yet? All of the photos are beautiful but the photo of the tree and sky looks 3d just beautiful. Can't wait to see the birdie pics.
It's sooo cold. I was hoping for 25 below(wind chill) so that schools would have a cold day? I will have to wait and see.( fingers crossed reports have it as only being 20 below:()
Beautiful and freezing!
I stood staring at the bank's glass doors on Michigan Ave. yesterday. They were frosted soild with the most beautiful ice crystal pattern. Wish I had my camera with me!
Wow! Art by Nature... and Ruth...
This must have been amazing in the flesh... spellbinding... it's just magical!!!
That is so cold.. Are those temps unusual for down there?
Oh my Ruth. What beauty you see on the way to work!
Just amazing for me to imagine seeing such a sight.
I hope you always go out with extra clothes and snacks.
I suspect that you could expire in that kind of environment without the proper gear.
Not to be pessimistic, just realistic. Peace
Franz Anton Mesmer has a second life on Internet !
Happy weekend to you in your beautiful wonderland, Ruth!
I will go today to grandmother`s wonder moments and see all my grandchildren :)
wow..this is just amazing
Thank you for sharing these spectacular photos with us. I'm in Florida, and I never, hardly ever, see anything like this!
Oh Ruth, these photos are amazing!! Made my heart lift to see them.
hen
xxx
Well, what to add but just thats it's really beautiful? Did we (or will we) also see your "portrait photo" in winter clothes?
Once more, I appreciate your C indications! I'm still making my "campaign" against the F!! :-)
Boots, hehe, I think you're teasing me, dear sister. Them stars can be quite fantastic and fascinating. :D
Oliag, life changes, and now you get to watch the sunrise from home, or not (if you're asleep). That's nice!
Good luck catching the flying squirrel, you and smart Miss Sally. Scritch, sratch, they are so smart!
Kerri, I will stay warm this weekend, probably watch some basketball. Maybe you too. Any UVA games (if that's who you follow)?
Thank you, Sue. I confess I expected the scene to get washed out in the camera. The light was just right.
Ah, Susan! Shucks. Thank you, but I don't think this one is nearly like the one you sent me. That sun! And yours are beautiful too. So much snow!! Thankfully this cold is good for beauty! And maybe best through windows. :)
Laura! Meridian Road is a county road, so it's not heavily trafficked. As soon as someone is on my tail, they pass!
I hope you'll paint paint paint. Yay for inspiration! You've really been going after it over there!
Moi, you, me and Midwestern scenery! I am love-love-loving your Route 66 series. Still jealous though.
Beautiful blog. Congratulations for being nominated to the blogs of note hall of fame:) I can understand way.
Hi, Spread your Wings, welcome to my blog. It's sweet what you and your daughter share over at yours. Thank you for coming by!
Sanna, you're right! By the time I got to town on this drive, there was no frost.
Cathy, did you get a snow day? Don did today (Friday) so with MLK Day Monday, a four day weekend.
It took me a few days to warm up from that outing Sunday. I was dumb staying out longer than I should. Thankfully I didn't get sick, just a wee sore throat. Stay warm yourself!
Anet, I imagine that was gorgeous! Too bad you couldn't catch it on sensor. The beauty of nature is harsh, I think of the poor men outside the Rescue Mission just down the street from your bank. I'm sure they don't keep them waiting outside in this cold.
I found your blog through Blogger's Blogs of Note, and I just have to say that these photos are gorgeous! Thanks so much for sharing them with us.
Ruth...Congratulations!!! A Blog of Note, Absolutely !!! I am so pleased for you!!!! .... Yeah!!!
Your blog is beautiful! Many congratulations on being chosen as "Blog of Note" today!!
(I am 52, too, BTW) :^)
Ruth, A Blog of Note!! Congratulations! (I am in esteemed company indeed.)
Congrats on being the blog of note. It is good to see someone else in the grips of cold and still finding the beauty in it!
JustJules
Ruth,
I know they hang out at the downtown library and the main bus station during the day.
Noah and I see them sleeping in the quiet back corners of the library, snoring away. At least they are warm and have a use of a bathroom.
Congrats on the blog of Note, you deserve it!
YEA!!!!!
You pour yourself into your blog and we get to peek inside your brain and see all the creativity and thoughtfulness.
Whooohooo!!
Very gorgeous photos, Ruth. I'm a big fan of your work.
If you have a moment, can you take a picture of something ugly or uninteresting? I challenge you to do this.
Love,
Philip Brightmore,
Champion Dog and Large Cat Breeder
very beautiful winter pics
Well of course congrats are in order, as it's not every day one of these zillions of blogs becomes a blog of note! And on a Friday too, which means lots of drinking and merriment for sure. I needed a good excuse to celebrate. Your blogs certainly are noteworthy, and I love the Paris one, don't ever delete it, or I'll be so sad.
Your photos are superb, I've saved two of them to keep forever, as they are like paintings by artists, and you Ruth are no doubt an artist. Blessings. Don't let all this fame go to your head.
lovely article....i advise you to se mine:)...i hope you will like it

i am here, i am here Ruth.
Love your pictures, and glad Blog of Note pointed me to them. Thank you for capturing such beauty and sharing it with us all
Blogs have become a very powerful medium Ruth. A good alternative to TV and News paper and magazines. People are tired of them.
Pink is my favorite color, my you shot it well. ; )
Absolutely beautiful! Only one thing better than a beautiful frost, is a beautiful frost with a sunrise :O)
Being a southern girl, I could never understand why anyone would want to live in the north. After seeing these photos, I'm beginning to. What beauty!
I have never been one who follows the crowd, however, this time I did!
Your art is amazing! I did not mess up, I know these are photos but art is all I can see!
Thats a real winter. I thought - 6c was cold. Great sunrise photo.
Dear Gwen, I only snapped the picture, it was begging to be taken. I turned into the first road, turned around, and went back to get this view. I just shot it in auto, Gwen. Nature did it.
I'd say we get about one week a year with below 0 F temps, but it seems as if we've had more severe wintry weather this year. I think you get more moderate on the Bay.
Hi Carl, you, and also rauf has suggested taking extra warm clothes and snacks, and I am not always good about that. Thank you for your concern.
I worry about the little kids waiting for the bus outside. Today, most local schools were closed thankfully. When the windchill is -25F, they close 'em!
Daniel, before you I didn't know Mesmer was a person!! That is really mesmerizing.
Oh Leena, you have winter and grandma wonderland. Big hugs and kisses to our sweet Melli.
Sophie, I hope you experience winter sometime, maybe you already have.
Well, Jiva, if you move to Wyoming, you will see it, I think! You in that cute little chalet.
Hen, ah, that's good. Nature brings me incredible joy, even when it's at its harshest.
Peter, keep working on convering us to metric. I will thank you forever.
See me in my winter getup? Hmm, we'll see, we'll see. Maybe if you come to visit, we can take a portrait duo, how's that?
Every Photo, wow, you are the first to comment about the blog of note, thank you! I'm a little overwhelmed.
Your blog images are inspiring. Thank you for taking time to comment.
Megan, thank you for taking time to stop by. Please stay warm over there in MN, even colder than here.
Wow, Gwen, what a surprise! I'm numbly moving along. Thank you.
Thank you, Willow, if I recall, you were a recent blogger of note yourself. Thank you, your blog is inspiring.
Sanna, ah shucks, it twarn't nothin. Exciting actually!
And by the way, I got a certain package in the mail today! I have to write you properly . . .
I was astonished to see your "The Clouds are my Mountains".
I suppose it is a Michigan thing.
I remember driving toward Port Huron and seeing the immense banks of clouds ahead that hung over Lambton County, Ontario, moving south off Lake Huron.
I often thought them the Himalayas of "The Far Pavilions" and "The Jewel in the Crown", and fancied I was traveling to the foothills of the pillars of heaven.
It is a Southern Michigan thing.
Well, Just Jules, you have it worse in MN, and it's hard to imagine.
Thank you for your greeting very much.
Your pictures are so beautiful. O love them. Do you have a flickr account? If not you might want to get one ;)
Anet, my friend Heather worked at the Wayne State Library, and she had lots of stories. One of a whiskey bottle breaking on the floor right in front of the reference desk!
Thank you for your congrats. Wow, I am overwhelmed!
Oh Don, you get to peek inside my brain always, and it isn't such a treat, is it? Hehe. This is crazy, yes?
Hi, Philip, oh thank you, wow.
I like this challenge actually, and it raises lots of interesting thoughts about photography. I've actually given it more anxiety than I should have. But I will consider what you ask.
Thank you so much, Joseph.
Jiva, you're wonderful, wow what you do for my ego. Please feel free to print out any photos that you like.
Just for you I won't delete Paris Deconstructed. Actually, now going there is one of the only ways I have to visit it now, so I'll keep it for me too.
Thank you, Bob, your winter photos are terrific!
Hi there, rauf. Glad to see you. I am here too.
Retriever, thanks a bunch! I think you'd feel at home here on the farm.
Christina, the sky was kind, and the frost did nothing but agree.
Oh Babs, I drove with my mouth wide open, and finally I had to stop.
wow cool blog thanks!
Oh, Melodieann, that is a great compliment! It's unfortunate that it's difficult to go outside in it!
That's a very kind thing to say, Gail, thank you a bunch. I hope you're warmer in Arkansas!
Well, Sixstars, it's cold. Your NZ looks wonderful right now. Maybe we could trade?
Thanks, Kanmuri. Yes, I have a flickr account! There is a link at my sidebar.
Thank you for taking time to leave a kind comment, Anonymous.
Just achingly beautiful. I do long for snowy skies! Even more so now.
Ruth, gorgeous photos. Congratulations on being named Blog of Note today! The first thing I noticed (after your great header) was your Michigan clock in the sidebar. I'm from West Michigan, along the Lake Michigan shoreline. Nice to meet you, fellow Michigander! Can you give a hint as to where in the state you're blogging from? :-)
Absolutely beautiful. Thank you for sharing.
These are absolutely breathtaking...Gosh would love to be in a warm house looking out at that, ...well for about 15 minutes...
but wow, beautiful photos.
Thank you for the beautiful pictures of winter.
I also looked at you Paris blog, because Paris is one of my favorite cities and fortunately I returned there for a three day visit in June after being away for seven years. It never gets old.
Nice shots... looks so cold! Congrats on being a Blog of Note!
Wow beautiful pictures.
Great images !
I love snow a lot. But as typical Asian like me, the temperature is really hard to bear! :)
Fantastic snow pics. Congrats for blog of note and the pizza looks yummy.
Pamela, snow is romantic, if you can stay warm.
Hi there, Peggy. I'm from south of Lansing, northwest of Detroit. Glad to see you!
Thank you so much, Butternut!
Thank you, Auntie Sandy! I know, it is nice from the inside looking out. :)
Montag, oh how nice to meet a fellow cloud-mountain person. The imagery you created with your words was wonderful.
Dear Dakota Bear, oh you are welcome, and thank you!
I was last in Paris in 2006, but I try to bring it to the farm in little ways. Don't know when I'll get back. I hope you can go again before long!
Thank you, Coachdad. And good luck with your new goal, I admire you for your determination.
Thank you, Holy Cuteness. Your animals are pretty cute.
Thank you, Mr. Villager!
Yes, Faisal, winter is beautiful, which is one reason I live in Michigan for the four seasons. But I am getting a little old for the cold. Thank you for taking time to comment.
Thank you, Blossom!
Oh yes, that pizza was YUM MY.
These pictures are gorgeous!!!!
Stunning photographs - keep it up
Lovely photographs. You are very talented!
Thanks, Super 2, the scene was gorgeous, and I was lucky to be able to stop with the camera! Stay warm over there.
Thanks so much, Sam!
Veronika, you make lovely art, and you have a unique perspective. Thank you.
Hello Ruth,
I recently made a short video of me enjoying the 9° weather we are having in Chicago. I'm from Vermont and couldn't for the life of me imagine what a year would feel like without winter. I know Michigan winters can be vicious, but I, like you, think there is so much beauty in them. cheers and thanks.
You have beautiful photographs. I'm glad blogger picked you as a blog of note because it gave me the opportunity to see such gorgeous images.
Thanks for sharing.
Here you got a really fascinating blog ...Good work ....
UFO Blogger
Lazy Julie, that's very nice, and I thank you. I am just fortunate to have Nature around me, I don't work very hard at it. I am lazy too.
Thanks UFO Blogger. I got shivers at yours!

Love the photos and very pleased to have found your beautiful blog! Lx
I live in Australia, and we live with a great deal of drought. Your winter wonderland photos are beautiful
Bob, it was an incredible morning, and I am lucky I didn't crash the car.
Evaluator, that's depressing!
Family Affairs, thank you, that's so nice. I was astonished by your post about the body exhibit. That guy with the skin hanging from his arm. :|
Hi, Robbie, you are welcome to romp and play in these pictures any time you're too hot.
Oh...that took my breath away! I can only imagine what it was like in first person.
Your pictures are gorgeous. People always say winter is dreary, they clearly prove otherwise.
absolutely breathe taking
this is perfect!!!! marvelous!!!!
Starlene, it was so compelling I had to stop the car.
You're right, Anon.! I say that to myself all the time. But there are still dreary days. That's what makes the pink ice day remarkabl.
Carrie Lynn, yes it was in person too.
Oh thank you, Janice Phil.
So beautiful! It looks so serene and peaceful! I love it!
That is a breathtaking photo!! Absolutely gorgeous!!
TwistedSerenity, it was gorgeous - and COLD.
Thanks, Tammy! It was Nature, I just snapped.
Wow! Your winter landscape is beautiful! Very very different from what we're having here across the Ocean!
Warm greetings from (landlocked) West Africa,
Esther
Esther, so very different. I hear from a friend of mine that Africa is the most beautiful place he'd been. I don't know which part he meant.
Your Kalahari foal is just precious. Thank you for sharing that first walk.
You express my sentiments exactly. The snow is a beautiful and inexpressible and indescribable beauty . I'm in Phoenix and never have been in much snow and have not seen it but for pictures. THANK YOU. Also, we have Sedona with red rock escarpment and I have seen that, and it is another scape, another picture of the natural landscape and beauty.Blogs are so much more satisfying than tv or quite a bit else.Just started my own
Edward, I've heard about and seen photos of the red rocks in Sedona. My friend built a house looking at them, and I've wanted to go visit. Such gorgeous landscapes all around us.
I agree with you about blogs, I like the interactivity with people around the country and the world. What a treat.
