I stumbled on your blog and just wanted to say that it's beautiful. Looking at these gorgeous photos of your surroundings is like taking a little mental vacation. Thank you for the lift it's given me today!

These a just fabulous pictures of a family gathering together, you can be proud at yourself as a family to stay that close, twice a year.
Cherish these moments, I know you do, I know you are tired and almost flat out...but if you look at these pictures, the being tired will fade away and the smile on you face will be back......
I like the picture of Ginnie and.... with the corn on the cob, that was the first job I did when I came to the USA...it brought a smile to my face.
Thanks for sharing these pictures with us.

I love your beautiful grounds.. so inviting and comfortable...

Whoa!
A pink bike with tassels!
Love the little fella with the eggs and the little one in her blue bathers.
Next year you'll have to have daggy t-shirts printed for everyone to wear!

Loring Wirbel said...

Was there a hidden significance in the matching bright orange T-shirts, or was it just a sunshiney thing?

Amy said...

Well just look at all those lovely people! Not an ugly one in the bunch! And are those eggs from YOUR chooks already??? Harumph! Your chillins are indeed mighty talented. I could not have done that, even if I were their age. Thanks for sharing your family with the rest of us.

Wow! Lesley is VERY trusting!!! I'm a little worried about Don though. He's looking a little grumpy! :)

oh smiles all over, show that you and don are terrific hosts. lovely pictures. Happy pictures. Bikkaas there was happy atmosphere your family created. You can't pluck happiness out of the trees. You have to create it and you did. Beautiful cane table with the glass top. The last ne looks like one take shot. i never learnt to click at the right moment. The camera lag made it worse for me.
i would have told Peter to go back and jump again.

Ruth, is lady in the yellow shirt your relative, because her eyes are like yours ?!
Lovely to see them all!
Good Tuesday to you!

Foms, thank you for stumbling on here, and for your very nice comment. It's funny you say that about the mental vacation, because everyone who came Saturday said the same thing. Hope you come back to visit. But you don't have a blog, right?

Oh dear Astrid, you hear it from all sides. You must know all the siblings by name and maybe even some grandkids. As you see I am already less tired, as I posted another post. You're right that tiredness is one thing, and warmth in the heart is another - and not mutually exclusive. Oh and yes, Ginnie is the corn queen - hey, we should have a parade with her as corn queen next Farm Day!

- - -

Gwen, it twarn't me! I'm not sure how Don's vertical jump is, he was a track star, ran the 200 and 400 I think. Thank you, everyone who comes here seems to find our place inviting and comfortable. It's the property, it just speaks to you. We're just guests; Nature is taking care of us.

Ruth said...

Letty, that is Lesley's 'Betty.' She's a beauty, eh? If you tell me what daggy t-shirts are, we'll get them printed. And see Don's and mine? Peter had them printed up - they have chooks on the front! Wish I had a photo of the two of us straight on so you could see. Maybe Ginnie will . . .

- - -

So yeah, Loring, Peter's friend came to Harper's one night to hear Peter's band, and he was wearing this very cool chicken t-shirt, so Peter sweetly asked him where he got it made and got them made for us and for himself! Good eye. But then, we were hard to miss that day. Lesley said she was glad we stood out so well because she always knew where we were.

- - -

Amy, ah, thanks for the compliment! No, those were NOT eggs from ours, hehe. No worries, no jealousy yet!! Oh and I could not have ever jumped like Peter myself. Here he is almost 26 years old and it's the first time I knew he had it in him!

Ruth said...

Sharon, I know about Lesley, right? Don, grumpy? I agree, he does look a little tired, like he needs a break, doesn't he? I think he might have been thinking about going back to his classroom . . .

rauf, I don't think we are such terrific hosts, but there is something here in this land that pulls people in, and we are the happy occupants who want to share it. I think people feel what we felt the first day we drove up the drive and felt the energy in the trees, just the way the first farmer planted them, and the way the house and buildings are situated. Someone really had a sense of following what the land wanted, and that was before Frank Lloyd Wright.

Oh, and I clicked several pictures that were at the wrong moment, some funny ones actually, what you call outtakes in film. My camera has no lag thankfully, I love that.

Leena, that lady is ME! So yes, her eyes are very like mine, hehe. Thank you, and good Tuesday to you too, although you are well along in yours.

Ruth said...

Oh, Amy, the chicken eggs in that photo with Nicholas are next to some quail eggs, which Don just fried up for him.

Anonymous said...

Yes, I know, but I was hesitating because of your opinion, do you want to say it :)
I said to my husband, that Ruth was so young and beautiful looking in the photo.
I have been organizing hundreds of old paper photos, they are in every room and they get me really mixed, when I try to remember year, when this and that photo is taken. You can guess, that over 30 years old photos without year are rather difficult to organize!!! Children`s hair cuttings are now very valuable thing :)
I have been scanning photos, where all three children are, that they all will get their own photos. I think that will take next winter at least!
Are all your old photos organized ?

Ruth said...

Leena, you are a good, sneaky, considerate friend. Smile.

You are soooo good to scan your old photos. Your children and grandchildren will thank you. We have done a very few, need to do them all. Peter has done some. My sister Ginnie lost photo albums in a condo fire years ago, what a loss! But her ex-husband kindly had reprints made of the children and made new albums for them. I also need to buy an external hard drive to back up all my digital photos . . . Have you done that?

Ginnie Hart said...

Ohhhhhhhhhhhhh! You are so far ahead of me, dear Ruth. I'll be glad if I get ONE post done this week of Farm Day. But then, I guess flying back to Atlanta and THEN to AMS the next day accounts for something, when it comes to time (or lack thereof!). Thanks for the memories. Whatever did we do before blogging????

And yes, I will gladly accept the Corn Queen moniker! :)

sandy said...

Ruth, this was enjoyable!! What a happy family you have visiting and I love the photo of you shaping the hamburgers ....well that's what it looks like, you look marvelous darling...

Okay, now I'm on my way to look at more....

great photos and adorable kids visiting..

Ruth said...

Boots! Well I may be ahead of you in posting, but you were way ahead of me looking at your hundreds of photos. :| This really is a good way to document these events, eh what? I can't wait to see YOURS.

I will give you your corncob scepter next year!

- - -

ah sweet Sandy! I'm glad you enjoyed the pictures of my dear family. They are every bit as cute, if not cuter, in person. Such personalities! And thank you dahling, I think you look mahvelous too.

Loring Wirbel said...

Don may look grumpy, but doesn't he have a slightly new haircut? Looks like post-modern half-mohawk. What do the chickens think?

Bob Johnson said...

Ruth your family looks so friendly and your farm an oasis, and how on earth does your son jump so high? there's a spring board just out of the pic right?lol

Anonymous said...

Great pics mom! My fav is the one with two cousins smiling at each other with grandma in the middle smiling back. Great great shot.

Ruth said...

Loring, they think he's competition for their combs!

- - -

Bob, you'd think so about the springboard, but no, this was with a short run and a leap from ground level. I was speechless. Our farm is an oasis - wish everyone had one.

- - -

Peepoo, I love that one too.

MYM said...

OMG! That last photo looks dangerous! LOL

Great capture tho, wow.

All the beebees & little ones. Ohhh, fantastic photos :)

laura said...

Looks like loads of fun, Ruth--and the raw material for lots of good memories for all ages. Good on you!

Ruth said...

Drowsey, I know! I was scared someone's neck would get snapped! It was crazy. And yep, the little ones are just toooo precious, I want to eat them all up.

- - -

Laura, oh thank you, it was quieter this year, less activity, but still warm and full of love and happiness. The little ones are in love with a) Uncle Don and b) the farm.

Unknown said...

can i be back at the farm now please? thank you.

Ruth said...

Yes, you can. But no more 24 hours of travel please.

Ruth said...

Me? Grumpy? Maybe... Being the introvert that I am, I often seem to have a look of grumpiness when I am in a group. Maybe it's a subconscious reaction. Maybe I just need a better haircut!

I like the picture of the two cousins looking at each other too. Lesley carrying Aden is pretty cute too!

Loring Wirbel said...

OK, I get the feeling Don is using Ruth's log-in again in the post above, otherwise I am hopelessly confused. Besides, I didn't call you (Don) grumpy originally, someone else did earlier in the thread and I was expanding on that. I'd say "pensive."

Ruth said...

Yep, Don commented as moi, hehe.

Loring, and Don, we are both in the grumpy/pensive/reflective/analytical phase of summer, just before the onslaught of another school year. We were also both tired on Farm Day - not to diminish its wonder and joy one little bit. But why deny the fact that we are/were tired?

And as for haircuts, Don, you ARE having one as I write this.

So yeah, Loring, you should have been confused, and no you weren't the first to say he looked grumpy, and yes, I'd say we are both grumpy.

There you have it!

Loring Wirbel said...

Then you qualify as curmudgeons and iconoclasts! Our days and days of 90-degree weather are soon to be replaced by rain and highs in the 50s by the weekend. We elected to only go to one day of the Folks Fest this weekend, Sunday, which is the only day it will be sunny and break 65 degrees. (Mountain Goats and KT Tunstall are the two big draws that day.) Then next week, it's take Abby to Boulder, then the week-long madness of the Democratic Convention and street theater protest etc., and then on to fall....

Ruth said...

Good to be in your company then.

Wow, that temperature drop is going to be a shock, don't get sick! Is Mountain Goats a band? Hehe.

Is Abby going to UC-Boulder? Or did you tell me already?

I'll be watching for you on the TV at the convention. Be careful, and have fun out there.

Loring Wirbel said...

Mountain Goats = John Darnielle and whoever happens to have an instrument near him. Google him or MGs. Carol and my friend Kevin's wife always say, "Oh John is so depressing," and we always say, "Depressing? What about 'Golden Boy Peanuts'? 'Cubs in Five'? 'The Story of the Pigs that Ran Straightaway into the Water'?" MGs are great.

And yeah, Abby will be at CU Boulder.

Don said...

I am so aware of my cyber surroundings!

I changed my mind, I like the photo of the chick in the yellow Tee on the porch best.

It is good to be in lofty curmudgeon company.

Daughter in college. Way to go!

Grandma said...

Thanks, Ruthie!! How fun to relive the FD world with your great snaps.......(sigh....I wish I had the time, talent, photog's expertise, etc., etc.).

As I mentioned on Bootsie's blog, all the pics are so good. You truly know how to do it!

I agree with Don.....I like the chick on the porch the best!! (smile.....)

Love you! Susan

Ruth said...

Grandma, ah, you're so sweet! I would love to see your pictures of Farm Day. Sure you don't wanna start a blog?? You have so much time on your hands. Ha!
