This series is a poem. Your berries are so luscious and the thorns sharp enough to feel through the screen. I wish I could share the bread I made yesterday to go with that jam.

Label for this post says Farm, food nature, you have to add communication, mobile phone too Ruth, please don't ask me what it is, black berry is something to do with mobile phones, i have just heard people talk. No, no it is not a kind of phone where after talking to your friend you eat the phone. You can't eat this phone.

Oh yum! We love berries here. Noah and I sat and ate a whole pint of organic raspberries the other night, just popped them in our mouths... while watching Sponge Bob.
That jam is like gold!!!

This year seems to be one in the west for super-sized blackberries, sometimes 2 inches long and an inch across. Looks like Michigan has some very big berries this year too.

Am now desperate for some jam ... must head out to market, can avoid the torns that way.

Rauf is very amusing.

Ahhh Ruth, so lovely.. uummmmmm!!! I love blackberry jam/jelly...What a coincidence you having your berries on display today...I was just taking shots of my raspberries for a post..

Tis the time of year to indulge!!! ... I haven't made jelly this year though... tell Don it looks fantastic... I only wish I had my very own jam-maker, like you do!!! Lucky!!!!!!

But.... I do have lots of jam-tasters!!

Cloudscome, I wish you could too.

rauf, Lesley has one of dem blackberries. Sometimes she sends me emails from it; it says at the bottom: sent by blackberry.

Anet, blackberries, organic raspberries, Sponge Bob - life is very good.

Ruth said...

Loring, they do seem big, and prolific. We had a lot of spring rain - did you too?

Sanna, nothing like jam on toast - or jam in yogurt.

Yes, rauf is amusing.

Swedehart, thank you, I'm glad you like the new look. Hmm, I'll have to tell Don your request for Farm Day!

Ruth said...

Auntie Sandy, strangely, I only ate one, as did Don. We were strangely focused on making jam.

Gwen, I will gladly drool over your raspberries, which I prefer to blackberries.

Ahem, I'll have you know I helped make this jam. Yes, I am a mild mannered assistant, but this time he didn't do it alone!

Sharon said...

It looks like you guys have been VERY busy! They look delicious!

Ruth said...

Sharon, it was a quick process actually. About an hour picking, then making the jam start to finish, maybe 1.5 hours. Freezer jam is quick and easy. Course I have a farmer's wife-man who has done it so often he's got it down to an efficient science.

Gwen Buchanan said...

Oh my apologies to you, Ruth, It looks beautiful just the same!!! and I'm sure it tastes even better!!

Ruth said...

Ha, Gwen, well it was a good assumption since 99% of the time he is doing it alone. I think I'll go try some on toast right now for night supper . . .

I smiled from ear to ear Ruth, the other day I was telling Ginnie about my home made blackberrie jam/jelly, but I did not know if it was that word....bramen-blackberries.
I have in my backyard blackberries WITHOUT thorns.....a delight to pick and not get picked.....
I almost can taste them when I look at your great pictures.
Thanks for sharing and giving me a smile....I am not a kitchen-princess, we say.....I have other hobbies, so making jam/jelly is a big thing for me, but fun to do.

Oh what luck! I just found a blackberry patch in the woods yesterday. They look to be about the same stage as yours are. I can hardly wait!

Ruth said...

Astrid, blackberries without thorns?? I wouldn't know what to do with myself!

Kitchen-princess, that's funny, I like that. I'm not a kitchen-princess either. Well I like to cook, but not baking and preserving so much. Yes you and I have other hobbies. I'm lucky to have my own kitchen-prince.

Amy, that's great! Watch out for the thorns, wear long sleeves and pants and socks!

More food shots, must not give in, oh well give up, no berries in sight, up to grab a banana, lol.

Don said...

The berries are big and juicy this year. The power company came through in May and cut a huge swath right through the center of the blackberry patch, so we lost 1/2 of our berries. But, they are free and wild, so life is still great.

Ruth said...

Bob, oh, so sorry to do that to you again. I hope the banana hit the schpot.

Donnie, thank goodness there aren't more. I know I'm a loser, but I can barely keep up with these vines. I have 1/100th your energy.

Those blackberries look delish!

Those blackberries are very photogenic! Beautiful!!

Ginnie Hart said...

Those thorns are little devils, Ruth, and make me gun-shy! BUT those berries are well worth the jam, so...thanks to all who risk the picking! :) LOVE the pictures!
