Morning shadows

This still life isn't a perfect composition. But I couldn't resist the morning shadows on the wall, so I took it as is, dust and all.

The little girl in the photo is my mother, Barbara, born June 26, 1916, passed away March 29, 1997. The photo sits on Lesley's piano, which is still in our house until she gets her own more permanent place. I'm glad because Lesley plays when she comes home. Barbara was a pianist too, among other things.

Above all she was enthusiastic. Do you know the root of "enthusiasm"?

dictionary.com says (my bold):

possession by a god (énthous, var. of éntheos having a god within, -theos god-possessing)

Mom was enthusiastically full of God! (I think everyone is full of God, but that's another subject.)

OoooohOoooohOooooh! You know I love it when you do this: the soulful pic of the shadows, the pic of Mom, the connection between her and Lesley, and the word study. This is a perfect interlude while I sit here at Washington-Dulles airport, waiting to fly back to Atlanta. I needed this! Thank you.

It's a still life water color,
Of a now late afternoon,
As the sun shines through the curtained lace
And shadows wash the room.
And we sit and drink our coffee
Couched in our indifference,
Like shells upon the shore
You can hear the ocean roar
In the dangling conversation
And the superficial sighs,
The borders of our lives
- Simon & Garfenkel

This song came to my mind when I saw the beautifully composed picture. Mom is so beautiful as a child. Sepia just blends with rest of the frame. I have seen a picture of Lesley lying on a couch when she was sick, she is as beautiful as you and your mom. I have seen your picture with George Whitman.

Now I am really scared of being 'enthusiastic' about anything Ruth.
Sounds so dangerous.

I love this moment I just had with you. With all of us so spread out, it's through this venue we have time together.

Right now, I am having a cup of tea with you in your living room, talking about g'ma and Lesley, hearing their melodies in my spirit.

Thanks.

Rauf, that S & G song is a good one to think of, and I hadn't made the connection. Thanks. Thank you for your very kind comments. And how funny that you are afraid of being enthusiastic! Somehow I think that won't stop you though.

Patty, thanks! I love that clock too, got it for Don when I was in Paris in 1997. The original "flea market" is in Paris, and it is huge. I got him this clock, which is 200 years old (not the face).
