Friday night concert

Our son Peter, a recent graduate of MSU in psychology, is in an alternative pop/blues/rock
band with a bit of country mixed in (more lately than before). Pete is 23 and has been playing guitar since he was 12. I don't think I'd be exaggerating if I said he's played the guitar every day for 11 years. And man, has his practice paid off.

Pete's influences are Stevie Ray Vaughn, Jimi Hendrix and John Mayer. (He might add more.) I also would not be exaggerating to say that Peter's the best guitarist I've ever heard. Thankfully, he teaches guitar, and are his students fortunate!

Brian, the singer in the band, has a unique, gorgeous voice, and last night in downtown East Lansing in their Friday night concert series they rocked and rocked for an hour and a half. Mark at drums and Mike on bass are gifted as well, and combined, they have a smooth, tight, sweet sound. Give them a listen at their myspace site.

Pete, Brian and Mark (Mike isn't in the shot -- sorry, Mike!)

I'll post about Peter in another month when they play a concert in the park in Plymouth, MI. They have one CD (you can order it from their web site) and another coming out in the next couple of months. Peter's my favorite musician. Can you blame me? He's good, he's cute, he's smart and he calls his mother "bo."

John Mayer or Mayall?
I would have liked learning music but more classical and more academic. To my Catholic parents, stage arts were sin and they didn't want to see their children (mostly daughters) in sin. So we were not encouraged. I find Peter is lucky to have you!

I'm with you Ruth, Peter is one of the best guitarist I have ever heard! The family is very fortunate to be able to hear him on a regular basis...just sitting around the camp fire or at the cottage!

I can hardly wait for the new album to be released!

I agree with both Ruth and Donica about Peter's guitar ability! I don't hear any better guitar work when i listen to the greats. When I think about the incredibly shy little boy he was and see him performing in front of crowds with such ease, I can see how we can indeed make changes in our lives.

Mei Shile: Mayer. I don't know Mayall. I can relate to what you wrote about your upbringing. With a Baptist minister father, I had similar constrictions. Thank you.

Donica: I was amazed last night at the concert every time he played a solo. I was in awe. And then I'd remind myself - -he's my son!

Don: The thought of him watching the world from behind my skirt or your pants seems impossible now, seeing him blossom on stage.

So glad YOU weren't shy, Ruth, about showing Peter up close and personal! :) You and Don have every right to believe he is the best. We listened to Melissa Etheridge's lead guitarist this past week and said, "Peter can do that!" He can! I think he could easily fit into any major competition and beat them all. (Don't you just love not being prejudiced :)

So nice to have musicians in the family Ruth, Peter is one sweet young man. Kindly let me know the name of the albums, I'll ask my friends who come to India to get it for me.

Have you heard of a 80's band Windham Hill Ruth ? Some thing like Peter's band and the audience.

Ginnie, I know, I say that all the time!

Rauf, yes I know Windham Hill through seeing the name, but not listening. Your friends won't find his album in stores, but online at their website in my post. The name of the album is "One Week Epiphany."

Heather, yep, he's definitely a cutie. I'm kicking myself that I didn't tell Sapphos about the gig.

That was a fun night, I'm glad you and dad could come! Playing blues guitar is better when I know you two are watching
