This is a wild turkey that has come close to the house lately. He's a "jake," which is an adolescent male (not yet capable of reproduction) and has all of these characteristics:
1. Outermost wing feathers lack white barring all the way to the tip.
2. The beard is six inches or shorter.
3. The central tail feathers are longer than the rest.

I love birds, and I do love to hear birds story. Have you ever did your totem? I guess you have a turkey in it!
We don't have those in the wild here, just the ones on the farm. I was in one, and I just enter the turkey house, they were all chuckling! Then, they stop, and each time I did a big sound, they just all chuckling again. OMG, I found that sound totally irresistible. So funny! :O)

Clo, I haven't done my totem, no, but I'd love to. I believe I must have the bluebird, for sure. Maybe wild turkey too, who knows?
That's funny about your turkey story! Don and I had domestic turkeys on another farm many years ago; wow, they are not the brightest, but they have their place in the world.
Oh, Clo, I meant to add, that we had to teach our turkey chicks to drink water. It is not an inborn instinct. Had to literally put their little beaks into the water. Also kept them with the chickens, who modeled drinking for them! You may have heard that turkeys sometimes drown by looking up into the falling rain? "Eh, what's that?"
thank god for dad and his extensive knowledge of birds!! what would we do without him. =)
