I got a sporty car (GEO Storm) once the kids were in high school and it was teal. I loved that car. Guess I continue to love that color because I just painted 3 outside doors a deep teal. Great pictures. :) M

Ahhh, les bleus... And you already know what I think about your photos ;-)

Dakota Bear said...

Oh yes, any color of blue is my favorite color.

Very nice pictures.

Love all your teal-colored pictures. Very restful. I did the teal color in my life for a long time. Now it is an accent color and not a main color - but still appreciated.

I love them. I just love them.

A beautiful collage...I love the Bishop, the gold detail pic, the window...well these are just great photos...

Teal is nice.... but I like "cat" as my favorite color. Bishop makes me smile. I'm missing my "two children with fur"!

Absolutely "tealicious"!

Turquoise (and teal) has been my favourite colour forever, much moreso than blue or green. So many variations of loveliness.

Teal, yes. Such a beautiful color: blue-green, green-blue? It bespeaks water and goes with or contrasts beautifully with any other color you can name!
Wonderful melange of photos you've put together here!

I love the ocean shot in the upper right corner with the sea oats in the foreground! The combination of colors is beautiful. Or is that Lake Michigan?

Claudia said...

So very beautiful, Ruth! The color and your post. Teal has always been my happy Summer color.

NJ said...

Very pretty shots Ruth!

Ruth said...

Thank you, Jean. Yes, you use a lot of cool blues and purples in your gorgeous work - one reason I love what you do.

Ruth said...

Thank you, Renaye.

Ruth said...

Thank you, DS. I loved that bridge - very Oriental with its flowering tree - in front of Grand Central Station in NYC.

Ruth said...

Meryl, it's the colors of Lake Michigan up around Traverse City, all those different shades that change with deeper water.

Ruth said...

Sweet Alice, one of my favorite blues is French blue.

Ruth said...

Thank you, Dakota Bear.

Ruth said...

Oh yes, L o L, it goes beautifully with so many things.

Ruth said...

Oh thank you, PurestGreen.

Ruth said...

Thank you, Oliag. I came around the back of l'atelier going to the laundry line one day, and she was there on the pile of bricks, napping.

Ruth said...

Brilliant, Judy - cat as your favorite color!

Need a new child with fur?

Ruth said...

Hehe, Dutchbaby.

Thanks, Kim.

Hi Ruth, Turquoise teal, love them. Your barns are the best. A few years back I bought a weathered turquoise game table at an antique sale, then I bought a funky chair at an estate sale and covered it in,bargain basement, turqouise drapery fabric. What a splash of color that adds to a room. Makes you happy:)

Ruth said...

Sanna, it is so soothing, a happiness.

Ruth said...

Laura, as in your limes painting - especially with white!

Ruth said...

Susie - it is Lake Michigan - up at the top of the mitten somewhere. The colors of the water around Traverse City, and the Leelenau Peninsula, vary into many different shades, just breathtaking.

Ruth said...

Thank you, Claudia.

Ruth said...

Thank you, NJ.

Ruth said...

Cathy, with your painter's sensibilities I can see that being gorgeous!

Don't forget the beautiful teal of your shawl in the sidebar!

Ruth said...

Oh! Anonymous, I could have included it in the collage, wish I would have. I love it so much. Thank you.

I love it, too. It has all my favorite colors. It is so rich looking. Was it a gift? Ever since I saw yours, I have been looking for one similar for my DIL.....it's just that beautiful (do you have blue eyes?)

Ruth said...

Yes, it was a gift, from India. When I wore it at the poetry reading in the photo there, my poetry mentor couldn't stop talking about it after the reading, she said it glistened in the lights.

My eyes are green, but when I wear teal/blue, it does bring the green out more strongly.

I hope you can find one for your DIL.

Anet said...

Oh gee... now I want to paint something teal!
At my old house I painted the bathroom ceiling teal with soft yellow walls. It was lovely!

Loring Wirbel said...

So when does teal become turquoise, and why? (Carol loves both and wears them constantly, but I am too color-blind to tell one from another.)

Ruth said...

That sounds gorgeous, Anet. My mom's favorite colors were green and yellow - together. That's close to teal and yellow.

Ruth said...

Dear Loring, well I was anticipating this question from you or rauf. So thank you for coming through.

I was beginning to wonder if this is more of a verdi gris, actually.

I looked it up on wiki and found that I should have been calling this color turquoise, according to their official hue names there. Teal is deeper, by a lot actually.

Another cool thing I found at that site, and that made this all more valuable to me: "turquoise" came from the French for "Turkish."

!!!!!

Ruth said...

Actually, now that I look again, some of these are pretty deep and teal-ish.

But don't let me confuse you.

photowannabe said...

I think it could be mine too. The color just perks up everything. Wonderful collage Ruth.

JULIA said...

I love teal too! More and more as I age because it is blue (another favorite color) with poignancy!
Great pictures!

The photos are WONDERFUL. Have you read Lover of Life's blog today? http://lifeinthesecondhalf.blogspot.com/

Bob Johnson said...

Teal has always been one of my favorite colors as well, not for clothes for me personally but things, very country type of color.

Daniel Chérouvrier said...

Pretty color unknown in my Hachette oxford concise dictionnaire !
I have to look at the American heritage dictionary I bought some years ago afer seeing it on the shelves of my son back from two years in Houston .
moderate or dark bluish green to greenish blue.

Arti said...

The power of visual persuasion... even if it wasn't my favorite color, now it could well be. Thanks for the beautiful collage!

PeterParis said...

Immediately when I saw your colours, I thought of van Gogh's starry Arles night ... and then I saw that you had included it! A wonderful collage!!!

ds said...

I would NEVER have pegged that bridge as being in NYC! (it is so oriental)Honestly thought it was from your Paris collection, because of the color, and the tree--but that was you, being artistic as always. Love Julia's description of teal as being "blue with poignancy." Will remember that. So thanks to her, also! Neat story about your shawl...

wow ruth,
As always you make a great collage I love the captures all of them have the "Ruth-Tatch" and thats a compliment: beautiful colours , very nice to see your blog.

Come see my my blog, I am stil showing the photo's shown at the festival of Photography , maybe you like them too?

Nice and creative weekendwishes,
JoAnn/Holland

Ruth said...

Thank you, Sue. Teal-turquoise is soothing to me, but also perks me up, yes.

Ruth said...

Oh hi, JULIA, I wish you linked to a web site. No blog?

I agree with DS, "blue with poignancy" is brilliant. Thank you.

Ruth said...

Thank you, California Girl!

Thanks for showing me Life in the Second Half's post. Synchronicity and synchronizing - the difference I see is that synchronizing is intentional - bringing things together on purpose.

But I love me some synchronicity.

Ruth said...

Bob, the sky has that teal color sometimes - well there are so many blues in the sky, and you see them all, even at 3 in the morning in the middle of February. Yikes!

Ruth said...

Hahaha, Daniel, I did think about my friends in other countries - would they know "teal"? Good for you to look it up in your son's dictionary. I too looked it up after Loring's comment to see if I was right, and some of these are more turquoise - French for "Turkish" ! I was so excited about that discovery. All those Turkish tiles at Topkapi are of course TURQUOISE.

Ruth said...

Well that's a very nice thing to say, Arti - thank you.

Ruth said...

Merci, Peter - I thought of you when I included the van Gogh!

Ruth said...

Oh, DS, you should have seen NY that April! Trees in bloom just transformed the city - including the Trump building, which I posted at my photoblog: here it is.

Ruth said...

Thank you, JoAnn, that's sweet. Congratulations on the terrific photo show, yours have the Jo-Ann touch! Always full of life and vibrancy.

Your photos are lovely, and do a beautiful job of showing why adjectives so often are needed when describing color, e.g. "smoky teal", or "teal green". I love it myself, and choose Alphonse Mucha's "Poetry" for my blog's header image because of it.

It's even there in your sidebar, in that lovely shawl.

Ruth said...

Yes, Linda - it's that dusty turquoise that I love the most, that's in your header, like the NY bridge photo here.

Chica, Cienna, and Cali said...

oh i love, love, love the collage.........there's no conceivable shade of blue i havent liked......and you had to put a van gogh there, right..all his "blue nights" are precious :)

Ruth said...

Moi, you remind me of the moment I had in the van Gogh room at the Orsay museum. It was as if I had seen blue for the first time - and it brought tears!

Chica, Cienna, and Cali said...

I know what you mean, Ruth......I couldn't get myself out of Van Gogh's museum in Amsterdam......not just blue, I love his yellows too....and when they come together.....I get goosebumps too :)

Anyways, I had to tell ya that i was reading this "fashion" mag this morning where they go gaga about teal eyeshadow...... now I would not go as far as donning blue eyeshadow with my love for blue but I did think of your collage :)

Ruth said...

Moi - nah, we don't need blue eyeshadow!

But blue with yellow, ohhh, yes VG knew how to do that so well, didn't he.

Ginnie Hart said...

It's one of my favorite colors, too, Ruth...and the thing I most like about it is it's "universal." It's one of those colors that's considered good for anyone! :)

Ruth said...

Boots - oh, is it? That makes sense. I know it's good for redheads. ;)
