interlude

I needed some blue for clarity and focus, and magenta for peace and harmony.

I got them from the morning glories and the hollyhock.

(If you click on the morning glory photo, you can see the tiny circle of moon above the leaf at top.)

The blue sky with the blue morning glory is prefect!
I'm not sure what the heck is going on with mine. I planted them in front of the brick fireplace, they grew and had a few flowers last year. Then this year a vine with the exact same leaf shape grew in the same spot. So I let them grow on to the chimney. No Morning Glories, only little white balls! Do you know if Morning Glories do weird stuff like that? Or do you think this vine is something else? I'm a little confused about it...

Restful, delicate and beautiful!! and the blue sky is a perfect match for your morning glory..
Ruth , your photographs are always so calming... I think it is a reflection of you!!!

Your Quote..."Find a way to make beauty necessary; find a way to make necessity beautiful."

You always do it with such grace!!

The blue of those morning glories is so beautiful! I like the perspective of the show, too.

Have you noticed any stoned bees on them yet? :-D

Moon, Moon, somebody say the word Moon, very cool Ruth. Love your images.

BouBou, they don't eat the seeds. Bees only smoke banana peels. That's why they're disappearing.

My morning glories didn't come up this year (some seeds blew into the neighbor's yard, I think; there's a swatch of pink-and-white morning glories on the ground!), and I miss them! There is nothing else like that particular blue: so ethereal, so pure ...

Anna said...

loring - LOL! I haven't heard the banana peel theory yet.

Are you follower Abe Lincoln's photo blog ? He's posted a few photos of the bees after they've indulged in Morning Glory pollen.

BouBou, oh boy now I've found a new favorite.

Beeeeeeeeutiful. The photos are so crisp and life like. Gorgeous.

MYM said...

Well, life-like is a dumb thing to say, LOL. I meant...

What did I mean?

I meant ... it's like I'm looking at the real thing, not a photo.

lol... :)

Anet, that sounds odd. I don't know, partly because this is the first year we've grown them (Lesley planted them Mem. Day). I'll watch to see if something like that happens. We'd have to compare the leaves to see if we think it's a morning glory, eh?

Gwen, what you wrote makes me feel great. If you feel calmer after coming here (at least sometimes), then this blogging thing is worthwhile.

* * *

BouBou and Loring, you two crack me up. I must have been quite the sheltered child, because I never knew you could get stoned on morning glory seeds (let alone banana peels). And oh yes, Abe Lincoln. His photos blow me away, like you're sitting there looking at the thing, only better.

Sharon, thank you, and back at you!

rauf, from you that is a good thing (not over-saturated?). Sometimes my monitor looks more dull than other people's.

Bob, music to your ears? Thank you.

Laura, nice to picture pink and white creeping along the ground. But they are a happy sight growing up a trellis.

* * *

Haha, Drowsey, I knew what you meant, but thanks for explaining. That was a nice thing to say.

Thank you, Sandy.

I planted hollyhock, at least that is what I can tell Ginnie, I have those in my backyard and only know the Dutch name 'stokroos'
http://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stokroos.
Free translation, a rose on a stick, that makes sens.
Love the colours and the pictures.
I have been looking at you last posts, I think you did well.
Sometimes 'we' are much to easy with buying things....
Ruth it was now a little too difficult to comment on them, as you know I am still very busy with the project and then I have to think too hard in English....grin...
I wanted you to know I did notice them.

Ruth, there are SO many herbal concoctions that are supposed to be intoxicating, most of which are nonsense. Whole nutmeg pods are legit, and a little scary. My favorite "miracle drug" is African yohimbe bark.

One of my favorite post-high-school jobs in 1976 was as a graphics designer for Woodley Herber, a North Grand River company that made fake Thai stick, fake sensemilla out of wonderful herbs like yohimbe bark. None of it was worth ditchweed's stems and seeds, of course. The most interesting job at Woodley Herber was drug-tester, the guy who held the job was a classic Cheech Marin character.

Astrid, 'rose on a stick' makes utter sense, I like it very much, that name - stokroos. We could call it stick rose. Even for me, who is not working on a big project like you (in fact I'm not on vacation 2 weeks, hallelujah) it was not easy to absorb, let alone comment, on that last one. I appreciated it, but it wasn't easy. Thank you for mentioning your attention to them.

^ ^ ^

Loring, well of course it wasn't worth ditchweed's stems and seeds (what the hay!) - but I think this is the post for stick somethings - see Astrid's Dutch name for hollyhock. If I need intoxicating herbs, I'll know where to turn.

^ ^ ^

Auntie Sandy, it's the time of year to be easily pleased!

Stunning photos! You are so talented and gifted. I'm going to have to get a photo of my morning glories.

Amy, yes, and I'll come see. Thank you!

Thank you, Sandy in India, I missed your comment the first time!

Ruth, these pictures are absolutely stunning!!! Thank you so much for sharing them. I caught them a few days after your post, but they have definitely started my Tuesday off on a perfect note! Love to you and the family, Dennis

Ruth said...

Dennis! Thank you for your visit, how nice! And thank you, I'm glad the photos helped your day. Lots of love to you, Amy, Noelle, Brooke and Nicholas!

Astrid is much busier than I am but she makes comments before I do, which tells you everything. Well, I think I probably AM busy but with things that are not always seen as "important." So I am really catching up. BUT I did finish all my Australia photos...my big project of the last couple weeks. Now that we're back in Atlanta, I'm now trying to get everything in order for Donica's birthday party with her family...today! 5-0 deserves a lot! :)

Ruth said...

Boots, that is quite a feat to finally get thru all your Australia pics. It's sometimes hard going back, when you want to move forward.

Wow, I didn't know you were having a birthday party! Hope it was fun. We'll hear about it soon. Yay!
