You neighbours have been put to shame now!

I was thinking the same, Sanna. And for $5.95 they too can look spiffy. But like us, they'll probably wait until theirs is battered by a baseball bat.

Cute box!
Mine is on my porch, safe from baseball bats and city plow trucks!

Don't tell me that bashing rural mailboxes with a baseball bat is a high-school graduation ritual in Michigan too! I never heard of it until I moved to Colorado, and I thought it sounded Neanderthal. Then again, cow-tipping, toilet-papering, streaking, and other Grand Ledge activities of eras long past look pretty stupid in retrospect. In our neighborhood now, mailbox bashing and toilet-papering are waging a popularity contest.

I was kind of surprised when I read the comments.....beat those with a basaball bat....I thought those bats were made to hit baseballs or softballs.... ;-)
The US Postal mailbox was very important in the time I lived in Pa. in those times (1975/1976) it took sometimes 3 weeks for a letter from the Netherlands to Hatfield, Pa. by the time all the problems written, were solved...grin...
Now we have e-mail, MSN, Skype, faster than the wind....
I have to say, shame on the neighbours, this mailbox it the most handsome on the block...

See Loring, Anet's is safe on her porch. You and I lived in town during those teenage years. I'm thinking you have to be a country kid to go for the mailbox bashing. I don't think I heard about it until we moved to our farm in Milford back in 1989. I think we only got TP-ed once, what a nightmare for the kids to clean up, especially after rain.

Astrid, you would think bats would be for balls, wouldn't you? I was thinking about instant electronic messaging when I posted this. Public mailboxes are disappearing. I still like getting snail mail. And oh, well you see how bad our mailbox looked before the new one, so theirs looked pretty good until now.

hmmmmm 2165....equals 14 = 5...

You have a very busy household where you can always expect the unexpected.

nice mailbox.

nice mailbox you have got. in india we dont have our own mailboxes. and the post boxes that used to be there a decade ago have become sparse.

Auntie Sandy, is that our numerology report?? I never think about that, though my friend Inge goes straight to the numbers!

-PPPPP-

Hi, Sandy, nice to see you here. So do you go to the post office to pick up your mail? Or does the postman come to your door and knock?

sandy said...

Post man comes and drops it off here. But I feel like I'm going out for an adventure because I have a really long drive way and I never know what critters will jump out and bite me....

Our mailbox is way down at the end of the drive way.

auntie sandy

p.s. That could also be part of my job description for you. I could pick up your mail, sort through the junk and just give you the bills, if I can keep any goodies that show up.

I use to study numerology years ago (in the 70's) and it's not part of who I am now however, it is in a way because I can't help add up numbers.

I tend to always do it with addresses to see what kind of experiences one might expect...haha!

Make sure you pay that mortgage on time cause 5's move around a lot! LOL.

Ruth said...

That does sound a little ominous. What kinds of critters?? Do you ever get lazy and drive your car to the mailbox?

OK, new job description for you sounds fine, but what goodies show up in the mailbox? Am I missing something?

BTW, that was another Sandy who posted a comment after you, he is from India. So as long as I call you Auntie Sandy, I think I can keep you straight.

Speaking of India, let's hope rauf is back soon!

We want Rauf!

No mail delivery where we are but the kids do the bat thing here too. There is a house on the way to town with an obnoxious football helmet box that just begs to be targeted. It's been taken down several times (admittedly to my amusement). Any ways they keep putting it back up or replacing it....

Sandy said...

yeah postman visits us. But those are all things of past now. i think in this age of internet where emails and phone calls are available, people have stopped writing letters. sad.

sandy said...

yes, where is RAUF? I so miss his posts. I check every so often.

By Southern California suburbia my driveway is long but no long by midwest, back east, northern cal, etc., standards. Critters; skunks, rabbits, a deer once, possums, raccoons (once in awhile)...not really scary except for the occasional snake.

Ruth said...

Loring, (a little louder now . . .)

-PPPPP-

Hehehe, Sharon, you tickle me. Let's see, what non-violent thing could you do to the football helmet? Stick a flower in it?

-PPPPP-

Sandy, but surely you must get some mail? Bills? What if someone you know from another country sends you a package. Would that be a special delivery?

-PPPPP-

Auntie Sandy, our dear friend rauf is in the final stage of refurbishing, so hopefully he'll set up his computer SOON. I had an email from him a few days ago. It's been so long, poor man.

Oh, those aren't scary, that's good. Except Don got sprayed by a skunk the first year at the farm while he was getting the paper. THAT was not fun. (but funny :)

Oh, no, our mailbox just got whacked! It was ruggedized plastic-metal, but the redwood post will have to be re-bolted.

Ruth said...

You've gotta be kidding me!! Good grief.

Hey - just like the ones here:

and...
The man who used to live in our house had problems with people totally removing his mailbox and throwing it in the creek - so he constructed a concrete monstrosity that took us days to dig out - it had 3 foot foundations - true!
http://tinyurl.com/64lnd9
If you have any more troubles with baseball bats - I've kept part of the concrete mailbox - I could send it to you!

and...
yes, Vince is a bloody bastard!!!
If he dares to catch cancer again, I will be demanding a divorce!!
Some more investigations next week - if we are lucky we might know by next Friday.
Thank you for saying nice things to me - it really does make me feel better.

Ruth said...

Letitia my dear, do you remember, you were going to send me that cement mailbox last year?? I need it, I need it!

My next post is in honor of you, even though it has nothing to do with Vince. I was working on it before I heard about his new tests. You'll see what I mean . . .

Ginnie Hart said...

Well, well. For $5.95 it's almost okay if it gets whacked again, though one would certainly hope not. I had no idea they were so cheap! Did Don save the old one to use in the chicken coop? I can just see the chickens going inside for time-out! :)

It's a poem in pictures!!

Ruth said...

Boots! What a brilliant idea! :D And it's just the sight rize.

-PPPPP-

Hi, Laura, thank you! Can you believe we let that old one go so long?

Amy said...

The old one has much more character. Ours is almost to that stage. Just a few more whacks with the snow plow...

Ruth said...

Amy, are you talking about the rust? Hahaha. We only replaced it because it wouldn't close any more, and all that junk mail we care so much about was getting wet.
