Ode

In a glass.

In a leaf.

We'd die without it.

Cloud.

Rain.

Snow. Ice.

River.

Vapor.

Lake.

Ocean.

Groundwater.
Aquifer.
Water table.

It's free.

It's priceless.

(No plastic water bottles please.)

Wonderful Ode to water! Sometimes I forget how precious it is! Refresher of the mind, body and spirit...
The photo of the trees reflecting into the glass like lake is breath taking! They are all wonderful, but that one really took my breath away! Thanks Ruth:)

Amazing photos!!! Water the post of the day and pop the word of the day.....I'll take water over pop any day!

Oh thank you, Anet. I'd like to lie floating in a pool of water right now.

Thank you, Sharon. Haha, yeah, that kind of pop. And only someone who's lived in MI before knows what we're talking about, maybe? What do they call it out there, soda? Yes, I rarely buy a pop . . once in a while with pizza.

I hate the taste of water in plastic, not healty.

Ruth, what can I say, I love your photos, but mostly the way you make them work in your blog.

Water makes everything work and what we are looking for beyond Earth, like Mars, shows you how important it really is.

Oh we always call it "Pop" up here...I only realized everyone didn't... when we were in the states years ago in Boston and the fellow behind the counter questioned me, when I asked for a pop...

Ruth, I could ponder on these stunning photographs all day.. .. you are AAAAmazing with a camera.. and how you document...

You are so right too to draw attention to this necessity of life... let's all treasure our precious water in all its forms...

Thank you...

Lovely photos.

What if you have plastic bottles but you use them over and over until the polyvinyl chemicals begin leaking and the bottle turns all flopsy? Is that OK?

As for the pop/soda debate, the weirdest linguistic trick is in the deep south around Atlanta. All soda is called "coke," including 7Up, Dew, etc. So weird to have someone say "Get me a Coke, but make it a Mountain Dew." Regional lingustics be damned, that's just wrong. Oddly enough, it's centered around Atlanta, home of Coca-Cola -- sign of instilling monopoly in the people's minds?

Bob, me too. I finally got one of the stainless steel water carriers, and I can't believe how pure water tastes! Thank you so much for your nice comment, and wow, won't it be fascinating to see what the Mars landing comes up with??

Mystic Rose, thank you very much. It sure is easier to come up with a photo poem than a word one. :)

Gwen, yeah, my brothers lived in Boston, and they said it was either 'soda' or 'tonic.' TONIC? Thank you so much for your nice words. Now your sunrise photos today, those are stunning. What a view you have. It's just not fair . . . is what I would say if you hadn't worked so darn hard on that place!!! You deserve every sunrise over the Bay of Fundy you see.

Loring, Happy Birthday to you, Happy Birthday to you, Happy Birthday dear Loring, Happy Birthday to you!

Yeah, I suppose if you want to do that to yourself, that's better than filling landfills with more plastic.

And yeah all pop is Coke in Hotlanta, and have you HEARD them say "Kay-oke"? As in, "I'd like a Pepsi Kay-oke please."

Did you have your cake facial yet?

There's still cream cheese stuck on my eyelash!

I've always found myself thinking about water (who knows why I choose to ponder this). Not in a global warming, save water kinda of way.
But in a "fascinated with" kind of way.
Like it's a feeling - not a thing.
My favourite photo of these is the one of the green leaves with rain on them.

Every time I see that spiky photo in your sidebar - I think of this:-

Loring, excellent! Cream cheese will make them long and lustrous. You didn't wash it out did you?

Letitia, I think I know something of what you mean, I get a feeling sometimes that water is an unknowable entity, like fire. But I don't know exactly, it sounds nice. And hey, how did you get that CLOSE to the echidna?? I'm sorry, but my photo is prettier than yours, how can it remind you of that? Hahaha.

Thank you, Sandy. When you live in So Cal, you have a special appreciation for water and its necessity.

Now that is a nice post! I had to slow my scroller a little bit so I could enjoy each photo and the simple yet poignant comment you made for each one.

I'm a lucky person to get to hang around with you!

Wonderful post. I'm guilty of using bottled water ... I really need to ween myself off them tho. You make a good argument here in photos.

Don, is a lucky man to have such a talented lady around the house :-))
Ruth, all of these pictures are FABULOUS, so well picked to show, I saw some Paris, Dublin, the rest did not enlarge, I will try later again.
You made a point with this post, we have to be carefull with the water....
I had to smile when I saw the first picture, the glass with some ice-cubes in it.
In Holland they (the Government) scare us and let us believe that because of the melting of the ice on the North-South-Pole, Holland will disappear under water, so we got got to pay higher taxes...they might use it to make the dikes higher.
Well just a small ecperiment, take a lot of icecubes, put those in a glass of water, carefully poor water into the glass untill it it full, right to the edge...now let is stand and look what happens if the ice is melted and.......have fun....

Drowsey, oh I've used it forever too, always thought it was so nice to have that 'fresh pure' water. Get one of those stainless steel bottles, they're GREAT! Swiss Army has one . . .

~ ~ ~

Oh thank you, Astrid. I don't know if Don is lucky or not. Yes, you recognized those places, Dublin in that first one too with the ice water. That is so funny about the experiment!! And how right you are! Hmmmmmmmmmm. I mean I didn't DO it, but I know what will happen, at least I predict what will happen.

I don't know why some photos enlarge when click and some don't. I've had this problem for some time. I used to think it might be the ones I re-sized didn't enlarge, but that is not consistently the case. Anyway, I wish they all would.

I hope you are having nice summery weather in the Netherlands.

What beautiful photos, and a wonderful "essay." Too bad we can't have sounds and smells too: I love the smell of rain hitting hot dry dirt and the sound of little swells hitting a hull ...

Ruth said...

Laura, wow you just conjured some great smells and sounds. I hear you've been boating and painting . . .at the same time!

Ginnie Hart said...

In the Netherlands we would say, "Precies!" Exactly!!!

Ruth said...

Boots, I would like to hear you say it. I'm proud that you're learning Dutch. Sometimes Astrid writes things to you at Shutterchance, and I think, And she understands that!
