30 . . . wha ?

Don and I were married 30 years ago on April 8, 1978.

My late brother Bennett took the photo, above, upon Don's and my engagement to be married, in August 1977. (My apologies to Bennett, and to you, for not PhotoShopping out the discolorations, which are especially visible if you click on the image to see it bigger. My wrist doesn't have the strength or fortitude.)

Happy, happy anniversary to you!
Ruth so beautiful and Don so handsome like from a movie :)
You was then 21 as I was in our wedding day 44 years ago :)
I am glad, I came and saw this just today, you are in my thoughts.

Ruth said...

Don, me too.

Ruth said...

Thank you, Boots. :)

Ruth said...

Thank you, Sandy. And congratulations on 37 years almost!

Oh thank you, Leena, you're so sweet. So we were both 21. Nowadays that age sounds incredibly young, although it didn't seem that way at the time. Big congratulations on 44!

Its quite obvious you share a deep connection. :)

This morning as Garland and I had coffee I told him it was your anniversary and quickly did the math..Congratulations!!

I remember Mom sewing her skirt with all those gathers as your Matron-of-Honor, and to this day I am amazed that you wanted a beginner violinist to play at your wedding!! That is the love of a precious aunt for her niece in action!!

Have a wonderful day, both of you!!

(are you getting a babysitter for the chicks so you can have a date-night? :) )

How do you say "Happy Anniversary" in Winnie-the-Pooh Owl style? HPY ANVSSRY? Wa-hoo!

Ruth said...

Thank you, Mystic. Yes. And when you realize you've spent more time together than apart, you recognize how lucky you are to do that with someone so kind.

Ruth said...

Mrs. M., you did a beautiful job playing the violin on our wedding day. Haha, no chicksitter I guess, but they're locked up pretty tight so Bishop and the kestrels can't get into their sanctuary while we step out this evening.

Thank you for your sweet visit. Love to you and Garland. We miss you too.

Ruth said...

I think that will do, Loring, in our 5-acre wood. Thank you.

I have been away for so long, and I am so thrilled that I made it back in time for your anniversary. Congratulations. I don't think you should ever touch the picture up; the imperfections are part of the character of the passing of time and something to show off like a trophy.

Congratulations! You're both lovely and so young.

Ruth and Don, congratulations, 30 years I do hope for many many years in health and in love, great B&W and I am glad you posted the original one.....no PP needed...
My husband and I 25 years in September....

Ruth said...

Thank you, Boubou!

Ruth said...

SwedeHart, yes that was good timing indeed. Thank you so much. Perhaps you're right about the photo, but I wish we'd kept it properly in acid-free paper. I don't think Bennett would be pleased. (But of course he wouldn't make a big deal about it.)

Ruth said...

Thank you, Alice. 20 years? Congratulations early. (Now I wonder if by 'next' you mean 2008 or 2009. We had a conversation about this at work the other day, a linguist and I. If I say 'next' I mean 2009.)

Ruth said...

Thank you, Astrid, for your congrats and wishes. And the same to you and your husband this year. On our 25th we went to Paris, which we both loved. I think Don went there for me and fell in love with the city himself.

Gorgeous Ruth!!! (Ok, gorgeous couple!!). Congratulations! I love the collar of your shirt and the hint of sunflowers on Don's tie. You seem so Carole King/ Carly Simon here. I love it!!!

Bob Johnson said...

Happy Anniversary to the both of you, it goes by fast doesn't it, our 30th is next February 10th,

Ruth said...

Kierst, yep, you gotta love all that fabric in those lapels. Oh, if you only knew, about Carole King. Whenever I had a cold, I would fantasize that I sounded like her. Thank you so much for your sweet comments.

Ruth said...

Thank you, Bob! Ah, so you're getting close to this marker too. That's great, and congratulations now if I forget in Feb. I still can't get over those photos of the moon and Pleiades!!

I want to sing the Flinstone's happy anniversary song to you. Instead, I will give you a link to the YouTube video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=knp9-GY6fHE

Heather, teehee, that was cute! And a tie with spots on it already. My father-in-law would be happy with that tie.

We had our honeymoon in Paris, I have been there many times so I know where you are talking about, a city so beautiful, do you speak any French??

Ruth said...

Astrid, yes, so beautiful. I miss it and want to go back. Do I speak any French? I speak enough to be in a restaurant or shop and not be rude. That's it. It's embarrassing. But I'd gladly take you to Istanbul sometime, and then I'd be able to talk a little better.

Gwen Buchanan said...

Congratulations to you both! that is a beautiful picture of the two of you .. young and innocent...

Ruth said...

Thank you, Gwen, yep, we were young. Now it seems like we were different people.

i like the discoloration, to be honest. you two still look the same. except for maybe dad's haircut.

so happy you are still going strong.

Bob Johnson said...

Thank's Ruth, they are some of my fav images I've taken todate.

The body language and facial language is very interesting in this photo.
I know I don't know you very well, but from what I have garnered, this photo sums you both up and your relationaship, beautifully.
Don looks soft and accepting and quietly self-assured.
You look more fragile - and earnest and concerned.
Together, you look like you are searching, and Don looks like he is always standing there with you - ready to face what comes.

How did I do?
Have I read you right?

Happy Anniversary.

Ruth said...

Sweetie, you know I like old things, and I like rust and wear and tear, so the discoloration doesn't bother me either. I wonder how it will look in another 30 years, or how we will look!

* * *

Bob, you must be extremely pleased. Feels good to create something so grand, I would think.

* * *

Letitia, um . . . Twilight Zone background music . . but seriously, I'd say you got it pretty spot on. I like how you pay attention. I wonder what Don thinks of your summary . . .

Thanks for the anniversary wishes. Every day is pretty much the same for us. And that is a good thing.
